You Can Die From Extreme Heat. Here’s How And Why

Temperatures in the U.K. and across Europe were at their highest levels in decades on Friday,

as a heatwave gripped the continent and pushed temperatures toward record levels.

Temperatures broke records in London, Paris, Berlin, Frankfurt and other cities across Europe on Friday.

As of 7 p.m. local time (1 p.m. ET), London's Heathrow Airport had reached 38 degrees Celsius (100 Fahrenheit), its hottest temperature since 1976.

In Germany, Frankfurt Airport saw its highest temperature ever recorded — 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) —

while Berlin reached 38 degrees Celsius (100 Fahrenheit). The German Weather Service said it was "the hottest day in Central Europe since 1832."

The forecast for Saturday is even hotter: London is expected to hit 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit),

which would be its highest temperature ever recorded for June 30th.
