Golden Arches first appeared on the first floor of Ginza Mitsukoshi Department Store in the upscale Ginza district of Tokyo in 1971, and has a history of 50 years.
Since then, the chain has continued to grow and develop in Japan, including exclusive products such as Fukubukuro Lucky Bags that are usually sold around New Year’s Day. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the chain, and McDonald’s decided to give us an extra lucky bag called “Big Smile Bag” during the midsummer, priced at 3,000 yen ($27.14).
We were lucky enough to come across these bags at our local branch, so we decided to pick one and see if it was worth the relatively high price tag. Opening his bag, we found:
The 3,000 yen bag, the coupon booklet has refunded our money, and there are some, which means that the contents of the bag are all gifts. In addition, there is a tote bag where everything comes in. This is one of our favorite things because it has this cute rare character printed on one side.
This lovely gentleman is Speedee, which is the first mascot of the chain. As early as 1940, brothers Richard and Morris Macdonald opened their first burger restaurant in California called “Speedee Service” system”.
In 1967, 1/4 Speedee was replaced by Ronald McDonald, and “Speedee Service System” was renamed “McDonald’s”.
All the items in this 50th anniversary lucky bag have a very retro feel, including French fries. It stole the heart of our boss Yoshio, and he was immediately fascinated by its cooling ability.
According to McDonald’s Japan, Big Smile Bag is a limited edition product that customers can purchase through the lottery system from June 23 to June 30. We were very lucky to stumble upon them for sale at the Musashi Kosugi Tokyu Plaza branch because our other reporters could not find them at the local branch, so if you want to catch them, please keep an eye on them.
