Wendy’s is opening an experimental restaurant in Ohio this spring that will serve as a model for the company’s next generation of restaurants.
The prototype, called Global Next Gen, is designed to cater to customers who want to order digitally and pick up their food in-store. The restaurant will also feature a delivery pickup window and mobile order parking spaces.
Wendy’s said it plans to open the first Global Next Gen restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, in the spring. It will have digital kiosks for ordering and payment; mobile ordering tablets; redesigned kitchen layouts; in-store shelving for digital orders; and a delivery pickup window.
The company said it plans to make these changes standard across markets by 2020.
In addition, Wendy’s is testing social media kiosks at select locations that allow customers to connect with friends on Facebook or Instagram while they wait for their orders at the counter.
