The customer turned Cole’s gaze to the frustrating details of the delivery order described by the annoyed shopper, which was described as “not good enough.”
The customer from Tasmania received five reusable bags in their order on Wednesday, and they were annoyed by the “ridiculous” number of items in each bag.
Her grip is illustrated in a photo shared on the Coles Facebook page, which shows one to four items in each bag.
She added: “Not only is there no way to cancel the home delivery bagging option, it means I have to pay for the bags that I don’t need, and this is how they are packaged.”
The woman put these items on top of the bag they came in, and found that there was only one bag in one bag-a baby cucumber container.
The other bag contained two packets of biscuits and a litre of milk, while the other bag contained only one bag of mozzarella cheese and one bag of chicken cutlets.
A bag of bread packs the entire bag, and the fifth bag contains four items-a bag of sugar, toothpaste, a bar of soap and a bag of baby food.
She wrote: “You said it’s not good enough to take the bags back for recycling. They shouldn’t be used in the first place.”
Others seem to agree with shoppers, calling her experience “nuts”, “bad” and “shocked.”
One commented: “The number of plastic bags is shocking! What about a cardboard box? That’s much better.”
Another wrote: “What the hell is going on? This bagging behavior happens to us all the time… It is completely meaningless and very wasteful.”
The complaint comes as Coles signed the Plastics Pact with many other Australian companies this week, which aims to make all plastic recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025.
Due to “health and safety issues”, Coles stopped offering shoppers the option of bagless delivery during the coronavirus pandemic.
A spokesperson for the supermarket previously told Yahoo News that shoppers usually have very few items in each bag due to different ordering methods.
They said: “The number of plastic bags you receive depends on how we pick the goods. Our pickers collect items for multiple orders from the aisles allocated by the supermarket.”
“So if you only have one order item in the picker’s area, that item will be separately packed in the bag.”
