How well do you really know someone? You may know where they are from, what their job title is, or how often they order Uber Eats, but do you really know someone? Bestselling author Laura Dave (Laura Dave) questioned this question in “The Last Thing He Tell Me” (released May 4). This book is a fascinating, suspenseful and hopeful novel. It delves into the meaning of knowing someone, even if their whole life is a lie. The highly anticipated novel is in production and is co-produced by Julia Roberts and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, and will be released in limited quantities on Apple TV+.
In this page turning machine, the words “protect her” are the last words Hannah Hall’s husband Owen Michaels (Owen Michaels) told her before disappearing. In the chaos and chaos, Hannah knew that Irving was referring to his 16-year-old daughter Bailey. When Owen’s company was caught in a legal dispute and his boss was posted on the news after being arrested by the FBI, Owen had already left and left Bailey with a duffel bag for cash. The remaining two words would bother Han Na. Even though Hannah’s mother left her when she was young, her mother instinctively took over her. She knew exactly what to do: protect Bailey. But she must find out from it.
When Hannah tries to figure out where her husband is and whether he is coming back, she discovers that there is no Owen Michaels at all. Her chance to find the answer took her to the bustling college town of Texas, far away from Sausalito’s home by the water. While looking for her husband, Hannah understands what it means to be a mother and how important her connection with Bailey is. When the two people began to decipher the lies from the facts of Irving’s past, they quickly realized that they were creating a new future whether they wanted to or not. Turning the page, the exciting and unforgettable “The Last Thing He Tells Me” reveals the meaning of really knowing the person closest to you and how far you are willing to pay for it.
POPSUGAR had the opportunity to discuss her sixth book, the exhibition of her works, and the meaning of family to her with author Dave.
POPSUGAR: Where did the inspiration for this book come from? Laura Dave: I have always been fascinated by real crime, especially cases involving fraud and embezzlement of public funds. In the early 2000s, I was deeply interested in what happened in Enron. I remember watching the CEO’s wife in an interview declaring that her husband did nothing wrong. So I began to imagine a story, despite the growing evidence that her woman still feels affirmed of her husband’s innocence. However, it wasn’t until almost ten years later that I began to put it into practice for “The Last Thing He Tells Me”.
When I did this, I knew that what I wanted to do was different from the domestic suspense I had seen before. I want to write a thriller rooted in hope. I mean, I don’t want the muzzle of smoking to be the husband proving that he is evil, or the protagonist who believes in him wrongly, or the story is betrayal. Considering the nature of this type, I know this is signing a difficult task. But when my protagonist Hannah Hall gets through the difficult situation, I hope she can find her way to unexpected places, which is better than she thought.
PS: Would you consider writing a sequel to this book? LD: Absolutely. I know exactly my dealings with Hannah, Owen and Bailey – I like to imagine their next chapter.
PS: Have you ever expected to get a display from one of these books? LD: No, absolutely not, this is indeed a dream come true! Red Om Films (Julia Roberts’ company) and Hello Sunshine (Reese Witherspoon’s company) are producing the series for Apple TV, and they are indeed the most amazing partners . It’s great to be able to create a part of Second Life for these characters, and it means a lot to me.
PS: Who is your dream for the show? LD: Julia Roberts is already a dream, and I can’t wait to see who will fulfill Owen and Bailey (and all supporting roles!).
PS: Are there any more books in your work? LD: Yes, I am currently writing a new novel. This is a large-scale, chaotic, evocative family drama, and also family suspense.
“She bit her lip as if she believed me, or at least as she started to believe me, which is more than I hope now. Because you can’t tell others to trust you. You have to show them they can.”
The role is worth the investment, but be prepared to prevent this situation from getting worse. Be prepared to study the meaning of loving someone and finally giving up your life to protect them. Since this book has many twists and turns, please be open to all characters, because you will never believe what will happen.
With the movie Mamma Mia! Similar, but completely dissimilar, “The Last Thing He Tells Me” tells the story of a mother (or stepmother) and a daughter looking for answers. Faced with all the problems, they must put them together to finally find the truth, no matter what they want the truth to be. These two entertainment works bring a sincere and moving journey for the audience, and these journeys will remain long after the ending.

If you are a member of a book club, please add Dave’s novels to the queue as soon as possible. The complex plot, easy-to-love characters, and the fact that the core of loving a person allows many opportunities for discussion to focus on everything from relationships with parents and siblings to starting anew. Really mean.
