Authorities said a madman suspected of committing a crime was arrested on Wednesday, including throwing a duffel bag into the entrance of the Marin County Jail and issuing a fire alarm, triggering a lockdown.
Marin County said: “After an unknown person ran into the prison tunnel leading to the visitation area, threw a duffel bag with unknown items into it, pulled the fire alarm and ran out, the prison was locked in the morning. Around 8 o’clock.” Marin County said. Sheriff Brenton Schneider (Brenton Schneider).
The authorities closed the prison parking lot when the investigation began. No evacuation was ordered and no injuries were reported.
A bomb squad from the University of California, Berkeley Police Department arrived at the jail at about 9 am to help search the luggage in the bag. According to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, the authorities found tire chains, clothes and mail in the suitcase.
During the search, a representative of the sheriff prevented a woman from driving on North San Pedro Road because her car matched the description of the vehicle related to the two incidents that occurred in San Rafael on Wednesday morning.
In one incident, a woman in black was reported to have stolen from an unlocked car in the 500th block of San Pedro Road North at around 7 am. In another incident, someone reportedly set fire to clothes near the China Camp State Park.
Richmond, 31-year-old Judith Garcia (Judith Garcia) was booked in Marin County Prison on suspicion of arson, theft, setting off a false fire alarm and possession of a stolen car. Her bail is set at $50,000.
The sheriff’s office said the items in the duffel bag were taken from the stolen car that Garcia drove.
